ANGEL SAMPEDRO

Angel Sampedro is since 2003 the musical director of El Arte Mvsico and since 2013 the director of the Orquesta Barroca Cond Duque, the baroque orchestra of Madrid.

From 1990 to 2003 he was Professor of Baroque Violin at the University of Salamanca, where he was one of the founders of the Academy of Early Music. During that period he was also musical director and concertmaster of the Baroque Orchestra of Salamanca performing concerts throughout Spain and the rest of Europe.

Born in Madrid (Spain) specialized in historical performance practice with Sigiswald Kuijken at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (The Nederland’s). He has been member of well known orchestras of Early Music such as The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, La Chapelle Royale, Orchestra della Capella Musicale di San Petronio. Nederlandse Bachverenigin Barokorkest, etc..

Among his many recordings, we find Sonate da camera a tre Op. 1 by Antonio Caldara, VI Sonate a due violini col suo basso continuo by Philipp H. Erlebach, both CD with El Arte Mvsico (Verso), 12 Sinfonie a Quatro by Antonio Caldara (Verso) as musical director of the Baroque Orchestra of Salamanca, Third Book of Pieces for Harpsichord by Jacques Duphly (Verso) with the harpsichordist Tony Millán and Sonatas for two violins and basso by Francisco José de Castro (RTVE).

Angel Sampedro is frequently invited as Guest Professor to teach Baroque Violin in different universities and conservatories in Spain and Portugal and is increasingly in demand as a musical director and conductor.
